Air Fried Okra
RECIPE BELOW!! Okra. AKA: Gumbo. Yes, the literal translation of “okra” is “gumbo.” It’s actually what was used to thicken stews more often than not. When cooked, okra gives off a gelatinous texture, which some people don’t care for. I mean, I get it. I’m a big texture person. But I’m so much more open to different textures now. Okra tastes so great and fresh I really have come to love it.
This recipe is for all the okra nay-sayers out there. The ones who don’t like slimy textures. Guess what? When okra is cooked this way, it isn’t slimy! Hurray!!
It’s crunchy, spicey, and tastes so fresh!
My husband’s grandfather tried these last year and said: “This i the best okra I’ve had in my life.” Now that version my husband deep fried 😂 But I’m betting to say these do match up to that and contain way less oil!
Give these a try! Leave a review and let me know what you think!
Happy eating!! A plus tard….
Air Fried Okra
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups sliced okra
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup corn meal
- 1 Tbsp of Tony's Chachere's or another Cajun spice blend
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup non-dairy milk (I like soy for this recipe)
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 2 Tbsps aquafaba (the juice from a can of beans)
- 1 drop of hot sauce of choice
Instructions
- In medium bowl, whisk together wet ingredients. Mix the okra into the wet mixture and let sit for a couple minutes.
- In another medium bowl, whisk together dry ingredients.
- Place the okra into the dry mixture and coat all over, using one hand to transfer the wet okra to the dry mix and the other hand to coat the okra with the dry mix. Place okra into the air fryer basket. Continue for the rest of the okra.
- Spray with oil and air fry at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 4 minutes. Toss. Spray again with oil, then air fry for another 4 minutes or until golden and crisp.
- Let cool and serve!
Notes
~ You can use whole wheat flour to sub white flour. I haven't tried with gluten-free blends, but if you do let us know in your review! I'm sure corn flour would work well, but haven't tested it.
