Gingerbread Play-Dough!

RECIPE BELOW!! It’s that busy time of year again, and it seems the entire month of December school is in need of something for some event: volunteers, money for a fundraiser, special dress-up days, school parties, food drives, etc.

In preparation for my childrens’ class parties, I wanted our contribution to NOT BE SUGAR. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m growing increasingly wary and frustrated with the amount of sugar being given out to and marketed to our kids daily… dum-dums after a day at preschool for “being good,” suckers after gymnastics, new vending machines at the elementary school, sucker sales in the morning for kids, candy rewards for completing certain levels of subject level mastery.. ranting, I know. And this is all on the heels of Halloween (the amount of candy y’all… don’t get me started!)

Montessori has been one of my latest curiosities, and I’m increasingly incorporating it into my children’s play. So, a tactile gift that wasn’t sugar and could also be a science lesson was the PERFECT THING FOR US!! 😍 AND it smells amazing lol!

It’s easy. Mix the ingredients in the pot. Cook on Low-Medium heat, constantly stirring, until the moisture is cooked into the dough and the dough forms a ball. Knead to incorporate any salt crystals or extra dry pieces. DONE. 15 minutes tops.

Don’t skip cream of tartar. It’s your volume increaser and your stabilizer.

I adapted this recipe from a couple of recipes that I found online, and I used another blog’s PDF when I assembled the play dough bags. Special shoutout to The Nerd’s Wife for her PDF print out!
